Pictures from Sarajevo

I love this city.   It really is a mix of cultures and in most of the tourist places Im alone due to low tourist numbers.  (Good for me, not so good for the Bosnian tourist industry .)  Every empire and religion which has hit European shores seems  to be represented here.  Its beautiful and everywhere there is a story to tell.

This internet cafe is good...Im gonna take advantage and relax here for a while and post up as many photos as I can:  Here goes.  DAMN  Why wont my photos turn around in Bosnia?!!!

Carpets in the main mosque.  All gifted from over the Islamic world.

 Catholic cathedral

The end of the Ottoman old city and going into the Viennese modern part.

 My morning coffee with postcards.

Beautiful Sarajevo the mountains are all around us.

Top of the hill.   The Holiday Inn in yellow where the journalists were reporting from when the war and siege were happening 1991-1994.  Underneath is sniper alley

Latin bridge near where Franz Ferdinand was assassinated and the First World War kicked off.

Interesting life of this Jewish teacher.

Me up in the village near Mostar.  the last village in the Ottoman empire.

 Modern and old Sarajevo.

Entrance to Mosque...I loved this courtyard.

Morning hair!! It has gone completely mental...yes, I did wash it down!

Inside the Orthodox Church.   Beautiful place and not a soul in sight!
Dont know what the grass is about...it smelt nice though.

 Sephardic Jewish museum.
  Old style Jewish chemist.

Woman,s bedroom in the house of a wealthy Serbian Orthodox merchant.  I loved this house...

 Old city of Sarajevo.

On the train..Swedish design and ridiculously hot temperature.
I think this will have been Eric the American,s most arduous train journey around Europe!

Contents of the UN survival packs in the 90s.  I really think the UN didnt think the Bosnians had a chance of survival in their city or they were just taking the piss.

 The Muslim School (Madrassa) corridor.

Water fountain in Gazi Husref Bey Mosque.   So beautiful.

 Window inside the mosque.

using my postcards to keep cool on the train.

Out last night with Eric from the States and Yoshi from Japan.  We went to the Sarajevsko brewery and then on for pizza.  A fun evening.
I should have told the Bosnian young lad and Yoshi off for their offensive finger gestures but I thought it wouldnt be fair...they are not in the UK.

Right I have booked another night here in Sarajevo.  I dont want to leave and have just booked my last three nights in Split.  Have to buy the bus ticket tomorrow.  I am not going back to the coast I have decided to see Split and also do a day trip to the Plotvice lakes which everyone raves about.

Going out for a 5 star eating experience in the top Bosnian restaurant this evening.  Bought pistachios with saffron and some fruit which is supposed to be good for period pain from an Iranian pharmacy this morning.  The woman was very helpful and the fruit and nuts are delicious!!
